Most pointe shoes will come pre-sewn with elastic. Depending on the shoe, you can either stitch the elastic on the sides of the shoe, or thread the elastic through pre-made holes. If the shoe doesn't come with pre-sewn elastic, start by folding the two ends of the elastic into a V-shape, then stitch the ends so they hold together.
Next, gather the drawstrings on the sides of the shoe and tie them in an overhand knot. Don't pull the knot too tight, as this can distort the shape of the shoe and cause discomfort. If you want to make sure the shoe stays on your foot, pull the knotted ties tightly.
Lastly, draw the elastic tight across the mouth of the shoe, from one side to the other. Make sure the elastic is taut but allows for some flexibility. You don't want to pull it too tight or your foot won't be able to move when you pointe. Once the elastic is drawn tight, tie the two ends together, either with a tight bow or half-knot, then tuck the ends inside the shoe.
