Moon Knight is a highly-anticipated Marvel television series set to debut on Disney+ this March. The series focuses on Marc Spector, played by Oscar Isaac, an ex-Marine turned vigilante who is in constant struggle between different aspects of his psyche as he protects the streets of New York City.

The series was filmed primarily in Budapest, Hungary where a wealth of filming studios and locations appropriate for the series’ Gothic and urban-noir aesthetic have been located. The city itself boasts a vibrant energy and unique cultural setting, making it a perfect location to represent the frenetic yet timeless urban environment of the Marvel Universe.

With over 80 different film studios, Budapest is a great place to shoot Moon Knight. It provides filmmakers with access to a wide range of indoor and outdoor locations both for interior and exterior filming. One of the main backdrops for the series is the city’s historic Castle District, a great choice for the production team to film fight scenes and chase sequences against a backdrop of stunning architecture. Apart from the Castle District, some spectacular outdoor locations were also used, including Gellért Hill and Chain Bridge.

On the interior side, studios such as Origo Film Stages, one of Hungary’s largest sound stages facilities, were used extensively to create realistic and detailed sets from the series. Origo boasts of a total of 70,000 square feet of interior shoot space and a 16-acre outdoor backlot that makes for the perfect canvas for the series to paint a world of darkness and despair.

Apart from Budapest, the series was also filmed in Miskolc, Hungary. Miskolc is a Northern Hungarian city located almost 300 kilometres from Budapest and features a wealth of historical monuments and scenic locations. Some of the main Miskolc locations used for Moon Knight include the picturesque Lillafüred Castle and Lake Hámor.

The Moon Knight series is the latest offering from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and sees the talents of director Mohamed Diab at the helm of production. Diab’s experienced eye has a knack for crafting stories tinged with the right mix of darkness and horror, thereby lending an appropriate backdrop to a series that promises to deliver a unique take on the superhero genre.
