Medical Geneticist is a career that combines DNA technology and medicine. Medical Geneticists are physicians who specialize in genetics and the diagnosis and treatment of genetic disorders. They assess a patient's family and medical history, order and interpret genetic testing and develop customized and targeted treatments for genetic disorders. They may also work with researchers to study the causes and effects of inherited diseases, devise strategies for prevention and develop tests to identify those at risk of developing a particular disorder. Medical Geneticists also work with families to provide counselling and assistance with decision-making, such as reproductive options.
