Lucas is the son of John and Renee Caravaggio, and the younger brother of Bode Caravaggio. Lucas is a young kid growing up in rural Massachusetts. He is close with his brother and they are often seen playing together. Lucas is a gifted orator and is able to communicate and persuade people very easily.

He later discovers the truth about the past generations of his family, the Locke family; of their dark past and their role in the keys and the Black Door. He then takes it upon himself to use the keys to bring his parents back to life, which he ultimately succeeds in.
Despite his rather tragic background, Lucas remains a strong character and is an important part of the series. He helps Bode throughout the story, aiding him in discovering the truth behind the keys and the Black Door, and offering his voice of reason. Lucas serves primarily as a foil to Bode, as his more rational and less impulsive behavior stands in stark contrast to his brother's.
Lucas also plays an important role in the final arc of the series by aiding Bode in his ultimate battle against the evil force known as Dodge. Lucas is the one who speaks to a weakened Bode and reminds him of the power of humanity and the power of choice, which helps Bode to ultimately prevail against Dodge.
