Why do they call it oven?

The word "oven" comes from the Old English "ofen" and the Old Germanic "ufn", which both mean "a place for heating." In ancient times, ovens were used to bake bread and other foods by enclosing them in a chamber with a heat source, such as a fire. This allowed the heat to circulate around the food, cooking it evenly. The word "oven" is used to refer to a wide range of heating appliances, from small toasters to large industrial ovens, that are designed to cook food using heat.
