Swedish is the official language of Sweden, and is spoken by the majority of the 10 million people living in the country. Furthermore, Swedish is estimated to be spoken by around 5.6 million people worldwide as a first language, with around 100,000 of this number speaking it as a second language. Outside of Scandinavia, many people around the Baltic Sea, in the UK, US, Canada and Germany, also speak Swedish. There is also a large presence of Swedish speaking people in Australia and New Zealand, as well as in various other countries.
