When do Arena points reset?

Arena Points are a feature that is unique to the ever-popular collectible card game Magic: The Gathering. These points are used to track how well players have done in Magic: The Gathering tournaments and limited play formats, such as prereleases and drafts. There are a few different types of Arena Points, all with different reset periods and definitions. Knowing when and how these points reset can help players make the most of their points and ensure they are getting the best value out of their MTG experience.

At its most basic level, Arena Points reset annually on New Year’s Day. This means that all of the Arena Points accumulated throughout the year will be reset and officials will compile a new ranking and leaderboard of players at this time. However, in order to understand when Arena Points actually reset, it’s important to know the differences between the Arena Points rankings.

The first Arena Points Ranking is the Competitive Constructed Ranking. This ranking tracks a players performance in the most competitive and challenging Magic: The Gathering tournaments, such as Grand Prix and Pro Tour events. The highly competitive Limited Ranking tracks a player’s performance in more casual and lower-stakes games, such as Prereleases, FNM and drafts. Limited Ranking also tracks a player’s performance in Legacy and Vintage, two Magic: The Gathering formats that are harder to find in tournament settings.

Each of these rankings has a separate reset schedule. The Competitive Constructed Ranking resets every month on the day of the rank update. The Limited Ranking resets every three months, on the day of the three-month rank update. Players must reach at least a gold rank in either the Competitive Constructed ranking or the Limited Ranking in order for a reset to occur. If a player does not reach a Gold rank in either ranking in three months, their rank will be locked and will not be included in any resets or rank updates.

Sometimes, Arena Points reset can occur in response to new sets coming out or changes in the game. A special reset can occur when a new set is released, usually in September and October. This reset is only applicable to the Limited Ranking and the points earned in this ranking will not carry over to the next set’s reset.

For players looking to maximize their Arena Points, understanding the reset times and rules is key. Knowing when and how your Arena Points will reset will allow you to take full advantage of all the various points and rankings, ultimately giving you the best chance at earning rewards and prizes.
