Karen Page has been a major character in the Daredevil comic series since she was first introduced in 1964. She is the longterm friend, romantic interest, and lover of Matt Murdock, the man who would become the superhero known as Daredevil. Throughout the series, Karen has been an integral supporting member, providing assistance and moral support.
Karen is, however, largely in the dark about Matt's true identity as Daredevil. For a long time, she is only dimly aware that he is connected to the superhero, and believes that Matt is the attorney in charge of representing Daredevil. All the while, however, she remains devoted and supportive of Matt.
It is not until the comic series Daredevil #7, published in March 2016, that Karen finally discovers the truth. After witnessing a brutal fight between Daredevil and the Russian gangster Anatoly, she finally pieces together that Matt and Daredevil are one and the same. She finds out the truth when Matt is severely injured in the fight. Knowing that she might be his last hope for survival, Karen rushes him to St. Anne’s Church, where she’s able to get medical attention.
Though shocked to finally learn the truth, Karen rushes to get help and saves Matt's life. Karen shows no hesitation when it comes to supporting Daredevil, even after learning Matt and Daredevil are the same person. In fact, the discovery only strengthens their bond and strengthens Karen's commitment to making the world a better place.
At the end of Daredevil #7, Karen’s loyalty pays off when Matt again becomes Daredevil and sets out on his mission. She is the one who finally reveals the truth to him and helps him come to terms with his identity. She also provides support for Matt when his loved ones disowns him for choosing his vigilante lifestyle over the safety of his loved ones.
Karen stands by his side throughout the whole saga, even when it threatens to destroy her as well. In doing so, she sets an example of loyalty and unconditional love, helping Matt conquer the fire of vengeance that threatens to consume him. Eventually, Matt and Karen both accept the consequences of their choices and become a family, proving that their love is strong enough to overcome any obstacle.
Karen Page’s character arc in the Daredevil comics is one of the series' most beloved stories. Her unwavering loyalty, strength of character and support of Matt, even after discovering his identity as Daredevil, have made her one of the comic book’s most beloved characters.
